Finding acceleration of an Atwood's machine

Homework Statement Two masses are suspended from a pulley: http://i.imgur.com/B4x8pzx.png mass of pulley = 0.20kg radius = 0.15m constant torque = 0.35Nm due to friction between the rotating pulley and its axle m1 = 0.40kg m2 = 0.80kg What is the acceleration of the suspended...

How to Draw Force Diagrams for Suspended Objects and Equilibrium Situations

Oh I get it. 40° should be across the 90° since it is supposed to be the angle the horizontal direction and T2 makes.

How to Draw Force Diagrams for Suspended Objects and Equilibrium Situations

Would the #1 be correct if my tension vectors were pointing down since they are below the horizontal?

How to Draw Force Diagrams for Suspended Objects and Equilibrium Situations

    1. I will fix the lengths of the arrows according to their magnitude but does that mean the free-body diagram I have for #1 is correct? 2. I meant to write 30° in the question instead of 29°. I was just wondering if the free-body diagram I drew was correct. The diagram of the situation is...

How to Draw Force Diagrams for Suspended Objects and Equilibrium Situations

Homework Statement An object with a mass of 300 kg is suspended between two cables which sag at an angle of 40ᴼ below horizontal, on either side. Draw a free-body diagram. While driving in your car, you notice that the string holding the rosary to your rear-view mirror makes an angle...

How to Draw a Force Diagram for an Object Suspended by Strings?

I meant to put 52° so 90 - 42 would be 38°. I was wondering if my force diagram was correct.

How to Draw a Force Diagram for an Object Suspended by Strings?

Homework Statement An object with a mass of 5 kg is suspended between 2 strings which sags at an angle of 52° Below horizontal on either sides. Draw a force diagram. 2. Attempt

Force - finding tension in string

Homework Statement A fuzzy-dicer makes an angle of θ = 49.6° with respect to the vertical. The mass of the fuzzy dice is 1.0 kg. What is the tension? 2. The attempt at a solution (deleted answer)

Forces - A block slides upward on a rough, vertical wall

If it slides with constant velocity, then ay would be 0 so ∑Fy would be 0. And Fx = max, but wouldn't it also equal to 0?

Forces - A block slides upward on a rough, vertical wall

Frictional force would be downward in this case. How can I incorporate all of this to finding the normal force and kinetic friction?

Forces - A block slides upward on a rough, vertical wall

oh okay, I get it. The wall pushes on the block to the left whilst the block pushes on the wall to the right. The third law states they would be exerting the same force in opposite directions.

Forces - A block slides upward on a rough, vertical wall

So the normal force would be on the right because that's the direction the wall is exerting it's force on the block and the 60N should be on the left because that's the direction it's being exerted on the block? Or would N be pointing to the left horizontally because that's the direction of the...

Forces - A block slides upward on a rough, vertical wall

Isn't N the normal force? That's why I drew it pointing to the right because that's the direction the object is exerting force on the wall.
