MATLAB How can I program spherical harmonics in MATLAB?
This is a follow up question. I'm a beginner in Matlab, so please excuse my ignorance if these questions seem stupid. How would you program higher-order derivatives into for loops? Is there a syntax in Matlab for higher-order derivatives? for l = 0:5 for m = -l:l \frac {d^{l+m}}...- scarecrow

MATLAB How can I program spherical harmonics in MATLAB?
I would appreciate some input about how to program spherical harmonics in Matlab. http://mathworld.wolfram.com/SphericalHarmonic.html I want to program a double summation that looks like this. G(\Omega_{1},t_{1}|\Omega_{0}) = \sum_{l=0}^\infty \sum_{m=-l}^l...- scarecrow

How Can You Naturally Get Rid of Pesky Flies?
Swat them with a pillow (larger surface area = higher probability of swatting them). I always do that and they end up crashing into the wall (It actually makes a sound when their bodies hit the wall). It knocks them out cold. Pick them up with a tissue and then release them outside (or just...- scarecrow

Graduate Proving 1 + 1 = 3: Abstract Math & Visualization
This is a coincidence for me. About a month ago I was walking down one of our university's lecture halls and found an interesting poster that caught my eye. It said "1 + 1 = 3?", and it had the whole proof clearly written. I believe some high school kids who visit the school every summer to...- scarecrow

Undergrad What Is the Probability of Passing Through Point B on a City Park Grid Walk?
That's easy. Map out all the possible paths (from A-->B, south/east), and then count how many intersect B.- scarecrow

How tall are you and how much do you weigh?
No. For a male, you are considered "short" if you are below 5'7". "Normal" would probably be 5'8"-5'11". "Tall" would be above 6'0". For women, being above 5'7" is tall, and below 5'3" is short.- scarecrow

High School Are those shooting stars or satellites in the night sky?
One summer night in 2005 I was out on my roof with a couple of my friends, and the sky was perfectly clear. We could see thousands of stars, it was amazing. We were in the countryside far away from any city lights. Well, the entire night we were just star gazing and every 5 minutes we...- scarecrow

Programs Is a Minor in Mathematics Worth Pursuing for Non-Math Major Students?
If you're going into pharmacy, it's nice to have a math background, but really Calculus I is all you really need. If I were you, I would minor in something that would be highly beneficial in the work place, such as biology or biochemistry.- scarecrow
