Quantum Computing: how information is encoded

@Routarans: That's interesting about the D-Wave, I live in the Vancouver area where this company is based and heard them in the news a few times in the last few years. Also the You tube link is very useful! Great primer, now I understand the concept at a 100,000 foot level...

Quantum Computing: how information is encoded

I did some quick searches and couldn't find any discussions on this topic. Anyone with background or ability to describe the basics to a novice. I understand the high level basic concepts, but don't know how information is encoded and how the qubits are operated on. Unlike boolean logic gates...

The reason why travelling back in time is logically impossible.

It sound like the problem posed is that of entropy. That the atoms and matter have moved to another state and the assumption is that entropy would have to "reverse" to it's original position "back in time"?

Why are normal distributions so frequent?

The worse crime I've seen is when companies use it to rank employee performance. Sorry for the Dilbert moment. :)

Can someone explain thoroughly the celestial sphere

This is probably not the most accurate or scientific, but I see the celestial sphere as pretty much the same as the geocentric view of the sky excluding our solar system as it doesn't fit the scheme.

Does gravity affect the speed of light on Jupiter ?

That's what I thought I said… with "So is it correct to say then that from the localized view of the light, it is traveling straight but to a distant observer, the light appears to have deflected?" Maybe my terminology is not correct...

    I'm confusing something alright...

Does gravity affect the speed of light on Jupiter ?

So is it correct to say then that from the localized view if the light, it is traveling straight but to a distant observer, the light appears to have deflected?

Does gravity affect the speed of light on Jupiter ?

Was trying to reconcile the idea that light always travels in a straight line with it being deflected.

Does gravity affect the speed of light on Jupiter ?

This is more adding to the question... is the light actually "deflected" or is it the mass of Jupiter changing space time in such a way that the light appears to be deflected or bend as it travels by Jupiter?

How do you safely discharge a capacitor?

I would think you can discharge them with a resistive load depending on the voltage it's charged to.
