A language for an electrical engineer

With China being an up and coming world power I am considering taking Chinese as a minor during my undergrad studies. Some of my friends think that this will be distracting and may take focus away from my other intense courses but I figure that the language is only 3 credit hours boosting my...

What are the best resources for practicing integrals in calculus 2?

I bombed my first test this semester and had to withdraw from my calc 2 class because I did not want to get below a B for the class. Before next semester starts I would like to get a lot of practice in and I was curious if there were any websites or books that people recommend that just have...

Strong magnet and was standing in metal shoes

If I had a strong magnet and was standing in metal shoes that were welded to a metal trashcan lid, could I levitate myself with said magnet?

Maximizing Pipe Length: Solving a Horizontal Carry Dilemma

Thank you very much for your help. I ended up with I took cos(theta)=9/a and sin(theta)=6/b To get my function L(theta)=9sec(theta)+6csc(theta)

Maximizing Pipe Length: Solving a Horizontal Carry Dilemma

The problem and picture is directly off of my homework. I added the lines in between the L shaped hallway. But the line is the hypotenuse of a bigger triangle. The only thing I can think to relate the problem to calculus is through some sort of trig identities.

Maximizing Pipe Length: Solving a Horizontal Carry Dilemma

Maximizing Pipe Length: Solving a Horizontal Carry Dilemma

Imagine an L shaped hallway. The short part of the L is 9ft the long part is 6ft. If you drag one side along the 9ft part around the corner into the 6ft part why couldn't it be 21ft? I would show the picture I have drawn but I am on my phone at work and don't have a way to post it here.

Maximizing Pipe Length: Solving a Horizontal Carry Dilemma

A steel pipe is being carried horizontally down a hallway that is 9ft wide. At the end of the hallway there is a right turn into a hallway that is 6ft wide. What is the length of the longest pipe that can be carried horizontally around the corner? (Hint: minimize the line) I have looked at...

Calc 1 topics to prepare for Calc 2

Well I was having trouble with different related rate problems, but I am not too shabby with them now. (lots of practice problems lol) But now its optimization problems. Finding minimum of materials used in a box' construction with just the volume given. Finding the formula for the maximum...

Calc 1 topics to prepare for Calc 2

It is in fact first semester calculus. I have all of the derivative rules down pat and have become rather proficient with them. Trig isn't too big of a deal either, I mainly have problem with trig when it comes to recognizing when I can use an identity. We started antiderivatives yesterday...

Calc 1 topics to prepare for Calc 2

I am taking calculus 1 right now and we have been doing a lot of application problems. Like related rates and finding and relating maximum values. I don't have any specific question I was just wanting to maybe have an open forum where we could discuss tips in understanding math->language a...

    Engineering Engineering Application: Contractual/Freelance Work

Is there a lot more jobs available for Engineers with a Masters than with a Bachelors? I read somewhere that the pay was like 10,000 higher starting wages for a masters, but engineering work can be done with a bachelors. Thank you for the link btw.

    Engineering Engineering Application: Contractual/Freelance Work

What type of experiences have you had while working in groups? I assume once you get to a professional level things are different. But in my experience (school and retail management) I have always had trouble working within groups. People act immature don't take responsibility for their own work...

    Engineering Engineering Application: Contractual/Freelance Work

I am currently in school getting ready to start on the electrical engineering program. I decided on this major for quite a few reasons. One of them being the obvious technical skills I would learn as well as application to my interests in everyday life. Another reason is the challenge, I wasn't...
