Is there a way to appear smarter?
I recommend reading "Of Studies", in Of Empire, by Francis Bacon. He explains how to become better mentally (including wit, which helps one to make friends, so long as tact is observed). Reading books on the subjects that you want to appear smart in, without necessary understanding any/most...- Smasherman

Discovering My Past: The Evolution of Computers in 1984
I have to say all I saw were the legs, too... On another note, I remember using DOS, enjoying fancy 16 colors in Empire and later Warcraft 1! Now when I play Warcraft 3, there are some kids that don't even know what Starcraft is! Probably never even played Doom 1... I believe I first got...- Smasherman

What can you expect in the Food Thread on PF?
I finally cooked my favorite of all dishes: potato curry and chapatti! It turned out really well, considered I had never cooked Indian food, curry, or chapatti before (though I nevertheless couldn't flatten the chapatti properly, so it was a bit thick).- Smasherman

Who Was the Craziest Person You Knew?

So many passwords and numbers to remember
That's why I put 'em all in one encrypted file. Makes it hard to access IMs and such from cafes, tho.- Smasherman

The B Word: What's Going On Here?
Did I mention I go to a rich high school and take a city bus to school everyday? A good portion of my school wish they were gangsters and loud people on busses having conversations gives me an earful of this stuff.- Smasherman

The B Word: What's Going On Here?
Oh, also, on topic, yeah, it's a status symbol of sorts. Everyone wants to be liked (unless they're well-trained monks, I suppose). Knowing this, it's no wonder women accept derogation in exchange for someone who at least takes the role of someone who cares. Also, b**** ,meaning a difficult...- Smasherman

The B Word: What's Going On Here?
This is a very common usage. Very. On another note, I think it's terrible that females identify themselves as b*****s. I once had a girl get mad at me because I told her I didn't want a b**** (submissive-sexual denotation). Shocked the h*ll outta me, but now I'm more used to it. People...- Smasherman

Love and Chemistry: A Lab Experiment
Stay on topic, please... Love is a real bugger. 'Tis a useful mechanism for getting humans to breed, then stick around to keep the kids alive until they breed, etc. Sure feels good though ('course, the fall is that much harder...).- Smasherman

People shouldn't have opinions or something
That was painful. So very, very painful. Why don't the schools teach people how to operate a democratic government? That's what they're there for... right?- Smasherman

US Education - Nearly 1/3 of US HS students will dropout
True, but nations tend to play Empire. In that case, Asia is going to be pushing the rest of the world around for a while, even if a billion of its population are extremely poor. Might be interesting to see unionization begin in China after a communist revolution (ignoring whether or not the...- Smasherman

US Education - Nearly 1/3 of US HS students will dropout
So... mercantilism of education instead of goods? Interesting idea. It might even work, but somehow I doubt it will do much more than slow down other countries a bit while they divert more resources to establishing their own top-notch universities, thus overall diverting money from the US's...- Smasherman
