Request for hard Relativity questions
I don't know if this is the right forum. Please move it to a better suited one if it exists. Basic info: I am a sophomore taking Modern Physics and will be having my first exam this thursday. I've solved a healthy amount of problems already, but I wouldn't mind being as prepared as possible...- some_letters

A rocket moves toward a mirror at .8c. My answer conflicts with chegg's
Ahhh true, thanks. How would I find the total time then? Would this work: .2d = .8c*t + c*t ... solve for t The distance that will be traveled is .2d, so the sum of the distances must be .2d. (Edited from .2*t) After I figure this out, can I use the same method, only changing the distances...- some_letters

A rocket moves toward a mirror at .8c. My answer conflicts with chegg's
This is an even numbered exercise so I am not able to get confirmation from the book on the correct answer. Homework Statement An observer in a rocket moves toward a mirror at speed v = .8c relative to the reference frame S. The mirror is stationary with respect to S. A light pulse emitted...- some_letters

Programs Which Major? Physics or Mech. Engineering?
Geophysics...Why doesn't anyone ever mention geophysics? I'm a physics major in my second year and am majoring in physics because I eventually want to become a geophysicist. From what I've read, it seems that the career outlook for physicists working in the Earth sciences is pretty good. Am I...- some_letters

Do I need to be a prodigy to succeed in physics?
Hey guys, quick question. And certainly a question that will annoy the more knowledgeable people here and will probably be met with 'work harder' and 'practice' and all that. Which is all helpful and very good advice but I am looking for some hard truths.. The past two semesters, I took Calc A...- some_letters

Venus passes in front of our sun
In the eighth photo from the top (it's a sequence of photos with subtext "A composite sequence photo of the steps of the entire transit of Venus seen over the sky of Seoul"), Why does it appear to follow a circular track? Intuitively it doesn't make sense to me but I'm sure I'm just not thinking...- some_letters

If it takes 17 seconds to blow up a balloon to 8 cm in diameter
I have a feeling that it means for us to disregard that. Is that the only way to do the problem? What I did was calculate the volume when the balloon had a 4 cm diameter, and calculate the cm^3/ second x. x * (Vf - Vi) = how many seconds Is there something fundamental I am forgetting?- some_letters

I have become obsessed with taking IQ tests on the internet. Are any accurate?
With any luck, I'll be meeting with one by the end of the week. lol do you think I should resist the urge to ask for an IQ test? Another thing, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but being that this is anonymous...has anyone else ever struggled with an inferiority complex?- some_letters

Rabbit and Fox Riddle: Maximum Safe Distance for a Rabbit | Solution
I think I understand now. It would always have to be twice as close to the hole than the fox. A twenty meter radius would ensure the fox is always 40 meters away from the hole.- some_letters

If it takes 17 seconds to blow up a balloon to 8 cm in diameter
Homework Statement If it takes 17 seconds to blow up a balloon to 8 cm in diameter, how much longer will it take to inflate the balloon to 24 cm in diameter? Assume that the pressure that the balloon exerts on the air inside is proportional to the surface area of the balloon, that you blow...- some_letters
