Graduate How to graph the duffing frequency response
I`ve been able to use excel to plot the trajectory of a harmonically driven duffing oscillator for arbitrary parameters using Runge-Kutta method. I would like to do the same thing for the frequency response, but I simply can not figure out how. I am not very mathematically advanced so the first...- Takuza

Can I Pursue a PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics with a Low GPA?
Thank you all for the replies. While I knew that I was in a bad situation, it didn't occur quite how much of an up hill battle I had going forward for admission into basically any type of graduate program. It is good to know that the BS/BA distinction is not generally regarded as being important...- Takuza

Can I Pursue a PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics with a Low GPA?
Hey guys, I would really, really like to go to graduate school for PhD in either Electrical Engineering or condensed matter/semiconductor physics. I will be graduating in December with two degrees from two different universities (yes, simultaneously), one a BS in Electrical engineering and the...- Takuza

Schools How Undergrad institution affects Grad school
I have the option of transferring to either a top 5 school in my field or a school ranked about 100, but I could attend the latter with a full tuition scholarship. My question then is, assuming that I am only an average student maintaining about a 3.5 at whichever I attend, does it matter which...- Takuza

I would personally just take the full ride, I don't know that undergraduate institution matters all that much- Takuza

Summer 2013 Math and Science REU Thread
Yea, its unfortunate, but can't complain about free services : P I noticed that I didn't have " 0 acceptances" as an option, and we have already had 14 responses. I corrected the poll, and should that change have been relevant to anyone, please PM so I can make a note of it. Alternatively, if...- Takuza

Summer 2013 Math and Science REU Thread
If there are enough people still monitoring this thread then I could make a survey asking some general demographic information along with number of programs applied to and number of acceptances. I think people in next year's version of this thread would find it interesting. Though I worry that...- Takuza

Wouldn't it make them more inclined to think "they'll be fine". After all, they know you have a different offer. Just received a rejection letter from E3S by the way. The were really tied for my top choice, but oh well- Takuza

Making the Right Choice: Deciding on an REU Program | Quick Advice
You can email the other programs informing them of your situation. Sometimes programs will give you an advanced decision if you have other offers on the table. Since you have 5 days before you have to respond I would suggest doing this for anything you may be more interested in, just to see. But...- Takuza

I declined REMRSEC in the hope that either NNIN, COINS, E3S or CIAN would come through. The guy in charge of REMRSEC is super-duper nice and it sounds like a fantastic program, I really hope I didn't make an awful mistake.- Takuza

Schools Should I Apply to Grad Schools Without My Desired Programs?
I'll again state that I am just an undergraduate, and there are people more qualified to answer this than me. With that said, obviously you can research something different than your PhD topic post PhD. To use your example, of course a Ph.D in PDE's can do Diff Geo work after graduation. The...- Takuza

Summer 2013 Math and Science REU Thread
I got a call from a guy who runs one of the programs I applied to, I missed it but he left a very long voice mail, saying that he would like for me to discuss what I'd be interested in working on and that there were people who wanted to work with me. While I'm very happy to have obtained what I...- Takuza
