Where Is the Lennard-Jones Potential Minimized?
Homework Statement At what distance r is the Lennard Jones potential minimized? Homework Equations Typical graph of Lennard Jones potential, U(r) vs. r/σ The Attempt at a Solution I thought that from looking at the graph, r = ∞ for potential minimization. However, the answer turned out to...- terp.asessed

Einstein's heat capacity model .and law of corresponding
Hello, thank you for correcting me that the Einstein model is for SOLID, not gas! Should I think in term of temperature b/c volume (hence pressure) is held constant?- terp.asessed

Einstein's heat capacity model .and law of corresponding
Homework Statement B/c the textbook mentions that Einstein's heat capacity equation obeys a law of corresponding states...but, I don't really understand how this can be...I've tried to figure out, to no avail...so, any help would be welcome! Homework Equations Cv/NkB =...- terp.asessed

How is the virial equation of state derived?
Homework Statement It's just that in my textbook, for section titled "Second virial coefficients can be used to determine intermolecular potentials," I have an equation that I do NOT understand how it was derived---I tried to do it over and over, but couldn't quite figure how. If anyone could...- terp.asessed

Is the Depth of Lennard-Jones Potential Linked to Covalent Bond Strength?
Wait, I was sure 1/r12 was repulsion and 1/r6 was a matter of attraction and distance between molecules/atoms, but is it simply matter of bonding, as in dipole-dipole, induced dipole and covalent? Please correct me, but I am new to the subject of 1/r12 and 1/r6, so forgive me if I am wrong.- terp.asessed

Is the Depth of Lennard-Jones Potential Linked to Covalent Bond Strength?
Homework Statement Just my question from looking at a table of lennard-jones parameters (molecular species and accorded ε), it seems the depth of a Lennard-jones potential is strongly related to a covalent bond? Not hw-related, but course-related anyhow, so any suggestions would be welcome...- terp.asessed

Chemistry Using data (Pressure vs. density) to find molecular mass .
Hello I did what you all have suggested, and got a slope of value 1.8145 = mm/RT from the graph of density as a function of pressure, but only got mm of 44.668, NOT 44.10... 1.8145 = mm/(RT) = mm/[(0.082058)(300K)] mm = 44.668 So, I tried for another slope W/OUT an additional data point (0,0)...- terp.asessed

Chemistry Using data (Pressure vs. density) to find molecular mass .
Wait, I thought this problem was related to ideal gas? I am sorry, but how am I to apply real gas in the question? Does it mean I have to find a 'general' equation as in y = mx +b?- terp.asessed

High School Which Formula Correctly Converts Celsius to Fahrenheit?
It's a quick question---just trying to resolve an argument between me and my friend--to convert Celsius temp. to Farenheit, one simply multiplies Celsius temp. with 5/9 and subtract by 160/9, NOT double the Celsius temperature and add 30, right? Please tell me which one is correct, for I think...- terp.asessed
