Which Implications are True in Mathematical Logic?
Thanks! Your response is the one that made the most sense to me. My main confusion was in how to tell whether a condition was true or not, but yours and Simon's explanations made the formulation much clearer. With that in mind I would answer the question in the following way: a) If a number...- Terraist

Which Implications are True in Mathematical Logic?
Then it appears that statement Y is false? I'm getting really confused. As far as I understood from the book, under a material implication conventionally used in logic, the truth of the statement depends solely on the exclusive truth value of each part (i.e. the truth tables). So it doesn't...- Terraist

Which Implications are True in Mathematical Logic?
Hi This is a question from my self study of ch.2 of Alfred Tarski's Introduction to Logic Which of the following implications are true from the perspective of mathematical logic? a) If a number x (assuming x is an integer) is divisible by 2 or by 6, then it is divisible by 12 b) if 18 is...- Terraist

Canadian Education Acceptable for Career in U.S?
Unless you're aiming at Harvard or Ivy League, then no. I wouldn't get worked up over it if I were you. The quality of education is as good as there, and employers won't care if you got your degree across the border. Keep in mind that only 7% of applications to Ivy League get accepted, so you...- Terraist

What is the Correct Acceleration of a Book on an Inclined Plane with Friction?
Homework Statement The 1.92 kg physics book shown is connected by a string to a 450.0 g coffee cup. The book is given a push up the slope and released with a speed of 2.58 m/s. The coefficients of friction are μs = 0.457 and μk = 0.166. What is the acceleration of the book if the slope is...- Terraist

Two part 1d kinematics problem. Need help, not solution
1. A parachustist jumps from an airplane and freely falls y=49.4 m before opening his parachute. Thereafter, he decelerates at a=2.02 m/s2. As he reaches the ground, his speed is 3.11 m/s. How long was the parachutist in the air? For this one I managed to get the solution already using a method...- Terraist

Undergrad How are jump discontinuities important when determining the area of a curve?
I'm sorry, I don't really follow. Are you saying that if I find a continuous function equivalent to the continuous parts of the jump function, and integrate it on [a,b], it would equal the integral of the jump function on that same interval? Could you perhaps provide a pictorial representation? -

Undergrad How are jump discontinuities important when determining the area of a curve?
Hi I'm a complete n00b at calculus (first day of the first year) so this question may appear a little...stupid. But I want to hammer into my head every little thing I hear in the lecture hall, so I might as well give it a go. Today the professor explained how jump discontinuities must be... -

How Thick is the Oil Layer for Strong Reflection of Green Light?
Hi, I'm a high school physics student and I'm having a lot of trouble with thin film interference Homework Statement A thin layer of oil (noil=1.25) is floating on water (n=1.33). How thick is the oil in the region that strongly reflects green light (λ=556nm)? Homework Equations noil/nwater...- Terraist
