Middle school and high school math texts
It's good to hear not all the proofs have been taken out. I'll probably look for a 2nd edition before I look at the newest one. What is the consensus on this book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/071672426X/?tag=pfamazon01-20 and would it have material that would be suitable for grades 7-10?- The|M|onster

Middle school and high school math texts
wow, proofs omitted from a geometry text seems like sacrilege. However, I would actually only need two copies of the textbook so it may be feasible to try to find the 2nd edition.- The|M|onster

Middle school and high school math texts
This is great. Thank you, yeongil, the list of the big suppliers is very much appreciated. You mentioned Jacobs Algebra book as a top choice for home schoolers. This book also came up in the link Howers posted. Is Jacobs geometry text, Geometry: Seeing, Doing, Understanding just as popular...- The|M|onster

Middle school and high school math texts
Thank you, qntty. How do you like using this series of textbooks? Also, how would you rate your own ability as a student and your relative interest in mathematics? Thank you very much, Tobias. Do you know if the texts by Martin-Gay are standard nationwide or not? If not, do you know if there...- The|M|onster

Middle school and high school math texts
This question is aimed primarily towards educators teaching math to grades 7-10. I am a math major doing some research in math education for a summer project I am working on. What are some of the standard texts currently in use for the subjects of pre-algebra, algebra 1, and geometry? Also, what...- The|M|onster

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?
I think I'll stick with Michael Artin's book and reference Dummit and Foote for now and check out Emil Artin's book after I have a good feel for the subject. Thanks. Are you talking about the preface? I'm reading, "This book is intended to serve as a text for the course in analysis that is...- The|M|onster

Thank you for the recommendation. Do you know if Michael Artin's father's book on Galois Theory is worth taking a look at?- The|M|onster

Programming needed for Cryptography
I was wondering, what types of programming languages are used in the field of Cryptography? I'm a math major with a working knowledge of C/C++, Java, and Python. Would it be worthwhile to learn some assembly languages? Should I learn more high level languages? Or, should I hone my skills in the...- The|M|onster

Undergrad Can a Matrix Be Expressed as a Sum of Diagonalizable and Nilpotent Matrices?
Euclidean algorithm, I believe, goes like this: let f, g be polynomials in F[x] such that g does not equal 0. Then there exists uniquely determined polynomials q and r such that f = qg + r and r = 0 or deg r < deg gMathwonk, is this what is known as the primary decomposition theorem?- The|M|onster

Is Physics Undergrad Burnout Normal?
That's just the nature of the game, my friend. After my last real analysis I've noticed a sharp decrease in attendance. I had one friend drop out of the math program and switch to economics, and I have a friend majoring in physics who withdrew from all his physics classes a week ago. Both from...- The|M|onster

Is the Role of Mathematicians Becoming Obsolete with Advanced Computer Programs?
I agree with that statement. It is important to have an appreciation for the applications of mathematics and I do. However, I am also someone who finds magic graphs to be interesting. In Crosson's first statement, he made it seem that if the maths doesn't have an obvious application, then it...- The|M|onster

Is the Role of Mathematicians Becoming Obsolete with Advanced Computer Programs?
Try the book Magic Graphs by W.D. Wallis. On page 13 it talks about an application of edge-magic total labelings in efficient addressing systems of communications networks. I read an article not to long ago about an application towards secret sharing schemes in cryptography. Also, if you search...- The|M|onster
