Prevention of Steel Oxidation: Cathodic or surface coating?
If it is going to be in a relatively low traffic area, coat it. Even with cathodic protection, you would still want to combine it with a surface coating. Assuming it's not damaged or worn away, a coating is always going to outlast a cathode; that's the nature of cathodes, they degrade to work...- The Wister

Molecular Manufacturing feedstock- nanotechnology
My b, I stand corrected. Graphene would make a good heat spreader and is a good heat conductor. Still, I don't think it will come to be one of carbon's defining qualities, which is ultimately the point I was trying to make. I'm not trying to get into a pissing match either, but let's be...- The Wister

Molecular Manufacturing feedstock- nanotechnology
How would you propose making a radiator out of graphite? It's physical and strength characteristics do not lend to easily exploiting this property.- The Wister

Single crystal and poly crystal metal
Seems to me like they could find a place in IC engines...if anyone knew more about them.- The Wister

Molecular Manufacturing feedstock- nanotechnology
Carbon will probably take a much more prominent role as costs come down, but for all it's properties, it still fails catastrophically, so metals will be needed where toughness is required vs. cost. Processing costs need to come down too. Gold is one of the best conductors, but we still use...- The Wister

Single crystal and poly crystal metal
I came to this forum to learn more about single crystal casting/properties/etc. Sooooo, instead of starting a new thread I will just continue this one. And the answer to this barrage was? I've taken my fair share of materials courses and the only time single crystals are brought up, it is just...- The Wister
