Music Musicians and Mathematicians: A Common Link?
Ah the drums thing is brilliant, last year at the music room sleepover there were five of us who just started playing drums on the serving stuff/barbeque equipment/staffroom and just made up our own little tune. I seem to remember being on the sink...- thebluelagoon

Graduate Uncertainty of the speed of light in vacuum
I think you meant "sceptic" - that word means doubtful. Septic means... like, nasty. Ill. Rotten.- thebluelagoon

High School Is the Sun Dying? | Facts & Speculation
More or less than halfway? Like, if you take the sun and it's current structure and chemical composition and do stuff with that... If H makes up 74.9% and each solar cycle such and such amount is used up, how long do we have Or maybe other information - Hmmm, I may have voted yes but am...- thebluelagoon

Music Musicians and Mathematicians: A Common Link?
That's pretty neat, St Aegis. I'm... technically... a concert pianist... I just don't play at any concerts... Next year I'll get more chance, this year I'm overshadowed by all the geni who already have their diploma and get paid to play for people. What I've always found nice about music...- thebluelagoon

Music Musicians and Mathematicians: A Common Link?
Because I was wondering, right. There's meant to be this big maths-music link. And just assuming many of you are strong in maths - are you strong in music too? Do you play an instrument? And what came first... the maths or the music? For me it was the music, I started on the piano when I...- thebluelagoon

So You Want To Be A Physicist Discussion
This is a really great guide - I too am considering a career in physics and am currently year 12 in New Zealand. I've got a good grasp of mathematics (coming top in 13Calc and went to last years maths olympiad training camp) and I love physics - even when my class goes horrifically slowly, like...- thebluelagoon

Engineering Most useful (spoken) language to learn for a Nuclear Engineer?
In my opinion, for languages, it's best to pick up one that's part of a family - like French is close to Italian and Spanish, and Dutch is close to Flemish and German - unfortunately for us native Anglos, English isn't really close to anything so we can often have a hard time picking up...- thebluelagoon

Programs Should You Pursue a Physics PhD? Advice from Brian Schwartz
Another exception for people with degrees is town planning. There used to be a lot of uni grads going through Beca Carter, seven years ago there were ten new graduates, and this year there was one. How can we have a "knowledge nation" without the menial labourers?- thebluelagoon

Programs Should You Pursue a Physics PhD? Advice from Brian Schwartz
I think it is important to keep your options open. So far I have only decided on a masters in maths and physics. Maybe seeing what job openings there will be after your PhD and where they are likely to be could be a good idea. And there are always positions for physics lecturers - especially...- thebluelagoon
