In Canada, most Math degrees are at the honours level and require 3-4 Math courses each semester for years 2-4. Generally, 70% of your entire degree is based on your major. I've heard much different things from friends in the US. My friend got a Biochem degree with about half as many Biochem...
I'm going to be applying for school in the next couple of years and I want to study engineering. However, I may want to move around throughout my life and I was wondering which engineering(s) have the best worldwide demand? Don't be alarmed, I won't study anything I dislike just because of the...
Yeah I plan on doing volunteer work, as well as co-op. Hopefully I can get an on campus job too. I'm pretty devoted and have always been interested in Linux, Unix and scripting.
I would love it if the class had more real world kinds of problems. I think the problem lies in the fact that I dig Applied Math a lot more than Pure Math and the prof is a very Pure Math centered guy. He teaches it in such an abstract way, but there is a whole chapter on applications so I know...
The prof is a nazi. He'll give us practice tests that make us underestimate the test and guide us in the wrong direction. He's even said he's going to kill us with the final. The kind of proofs he asks on the tests make me feel like I need to know every property and identity. It's annoying.
Let me start off saying I hate linear algebra. It may just be the prof, but I feel like I have to memorize far too much in this class. It's like I need to memorize the entire textbook. I work my *** off studying and test time comes and I am welcomed by a proof that requires countless other...
I think I fall into this category at times. I get down on myself because I'm not the best in my class. I'm really trying to accept that genetics play an important role. I keep thinking that I should be able to do effectively no studying and still get 100% or close to it. Anyone else have trouble...
Have you ever blanked on a test and got a below average grade on said test? How did you get over it? What did you tell yourself? Also, how do you learn Math? Do you learn on your own and get help only when you absolutely need it? At what point do you accept that you need help? I know it's a lot...
