Graduate Gravity & Momentum: Direction's Role in Observation

does the direction of movement play a role in the gravitational effect on a distant observer. Given two masses of equal rest mass. One traveling away from an observer and one traveling towards an observer both traveling at the same speed. Will both exert the same amount of gravity on the...

Undergrad Can the Universe's Shape Be Tested Like a Balloon?

Yes exactly. When reading the wording of the OP and the direction this thread was going it seemed that people were pushing the anology too far.

Undergrad Can the Universe's Shape Be Tested Like a Balloon?

No it is nothing like a balloon. Remember that portions of our universe are expanding faster than the speed of light away from us. Even parts within our visible universe are and have always been speeding away from us at faster than the speed of light.

High School Is the center of the universe constantly changing?

You are at the exact center of your visible universe. Everyone is in the center of their visible universe. Your visible universe is not infinite. The visible universe appears to be expanding. Beyond the visible universe is beyond our reach in a similar way to knowing what goes on inside...

Undergrad Can the Universe's Shape Be Tested Like a Balloon?

Your question first needs to define what is space-time. How would having a forth spatial dimension by itself bend space-time. Some people view space as nothing. If that is the case then what does bending nothing mean? I personally believe it to be something. Personally, and I...

The universe is not like a balloon.

Undergrad The red shift - what does it indicate?

Dont quasars come from a deep gravity well? Remember there is also a gravitational redshift. Most people believe that the red shift if from galaxies moving further away from us are due to the expansion of the universe. The red shift is from the doppler effect.

Graduate New to the board. Gravity questions

Hi, My name is Tom. I am just learning about space and physics and how the universe works. I have a question and I am not sure if I am posting it in the correct place or not so please let me know if I am posting it wrongly. My question is about gravities relationship with the...
