Programs Any physics majors feel too dumb to be majoring in physics?

I'm an undergrad in physics, and I have mostly A's and a B/B+ here and there in my physics/math courses, but I still feel stupid 98% of the time. I think most of the stuff you're saying I can relate to, its pretty normal as most have said.. I can't speak for everyone but in my experience my...

Rejected from all REUs, worried about the implications

I can see now why that would be true; large universities tend to offer a lot of research for their students. That really sucks, what happened to your colleague. Thanks for the insight, I'll try to create less meaningless posts.

Rejected from all REUs, worried about the implications

Thanks for the replies everyone. I suppose sophomores are too fresh to get into those REU's, and I didn't consider the fact that I'm at a large university. I've been asking since November, and I'm currently "waitlisted" if you will by a few professors at my school. Hopefully something...

Rejected from all REUs, worried about the implications

Hello PF, I am currently a sophomore in physics at a top-10-in-physics large research university and I applied to 5 REU's to possibly enter into in the summer before my junior year. However, I heard from the 5th program today that I am rejected. This leads to a total of 5 rejections. This...

BS E-Physics to a graduate program in EE?

Hello PF, I did a quick google and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so here it is: I am an undergrad graduating next year with a bachelors in Engineering Physics. So far my concentration has been in physics. I took one Intro to EE course which I liked, and I am taking a circuits...

I love physics but having second thoughts on becoming a physicist- Need guidance

I'm sorry but isn't it kind of obvious? All of us at some point or another were "limited" by our knowledge/skills.. that's why you learn and improve. Being a scientist doesn't mean you come in knowing everything; if that's the case then what's the point? If you're doing mediocre on exams, then...

Programs Regret your PhD? Would do it all over again?

First I'd like to say thanks for the insight and taking the time to type all that out. This is something I considered doing as well before going straight into graduate school. Getting involved a little industry before spending another 6 years in school. Well thanks for your input:)

Programs Regret your PhD? Would do it all over again?

Thanks for the insight FourierFaux. I have no desire or prior interest to go into CS, medicine or engineering. I took a few CS courses here, and it wasn't my cup of tea however I can do it if needed. I'll be sure to recite to them what you have said here if something comes up.

Programs Regret your PhD? Would do it all over again?

I got your point from your original post. I even said "Thanks Zz". I stated that I already read statistics, and that I just want some real life perspectives.

Programs Regret your PhD? Would do it all over again?

I thought I stated neither will forecast...but okay. I don't have many experiences with jobs or the "real" world since I'm only an undergraduate but I like hearing stories. Also, I trust that most people posting regularly on this forum are intelligent and will provide a thorough...

Programs Regret your PhD? Would do it all over again?

Wow, when I went to sleep there was only one page. I read everything, and thanks for those who gave their perspectives. I'm happy that some of you it was a core part of your lives, because this is how I see it. We often see a lot of weird posts on this forum, so its weird for Zz to question my...

How Do Spiral Galaxies Maintain Their Shape?

Thanks for the sources, it helped a lot :)

How Do Spiral Galaxies Maintain Their Shape?

So I was watching this: which talks about the winding paradox of spiral galaxies, e.g. the stars all move at the same relative speed however that shape is maintained. However, we still have those shapes. The video talks about density waves of some sort. I don't really understand. This...

Programs Regret your PhD? Would do it all over again?

This post is gold and exactly what my intentions were. Thank you. I also agreed with Zz, and stated already that I have looked at statistics, I just wanted some perspectives.
