Advice for Desperate Situation: Failing Maths at University
It's interesting that you cited weed as being one reason for your problems up until now, and then you also ask about advice for your future in the long term, yet you vehemently defend the future prospect of smoking pot on occasion. Since the first post, you have not even conceded that the weed...- usahockey

Advice for Desperate Situation: Failing Maths at University
If you "picked up half the available marks", that's still an F...would it be wrong to characterize that performance as lacking, or do you set your standards that low? Sorry, but you are in denial about the whole pot smoking issue. Yes, the video games need to end as well; they are just as...- usahockey

Advice for Desperate Situation: Failing Maths at University
Those menial jobs will probably be the only kind he can get for any significant period of time, considering that most professional employers will give him the boot after he tests positive for THC.- usahockey

Is Berkeley or UCLA Better for an Applied Math Undergrad?
While Berkeley is rated a bit higher than UCLA, I think the prestige factor of an undergrad degree would be pretty minimal between the two schools. You would get a top-notch education at either place. Your best bet for deciding would be to tour both of the campuses, sit in at a class or two at...- usahockey

Advice for Desperate Situation: Failing Maths at University
Yea, some people can use drugs on occasion and be unaffected by it. In my experience though, there are very few who can do this. The last thing this guy needs is more justification for his drug use. Drug users are always excellent at justifying their decision to get high (use it only as a...- usahockey

Advice for Desperate Situation: Failing Maths at University
Stop smoking pot. The problem with this drug is that when used regularly, it negatively affects your mind 24/7. The drug is stored in your fat, and does not get eliminated from the body quickly like, say, alcohol. If you've been smoking regularly and then stop, make sure to stop for good. It...- usahockey

Programs POLL for Most useful 4 year degree
I never said a business student had any easier time getting an MBA...obviously though, if you look at the average salaries of those with undergrad business degrees several years down the road, there will naturally be a higher percentage of those who have gone through an MBA program and would...- usahockey

Programs POLL for Most useful 4 year degree
If you are solely talking about the monetary value of an undergrad degree... I believe a degree in engineering is, on average, worth more than any other bachelor's UPON GRADUATION... If you look at the average salary of graduates several years down the road however, then those with a...- usahockey

Glad to hear things are going alright for you...I have been suffering with some anxiety lately, and while not severe enough to have an impact on school, I can understand where it is definitely a valid reason for falling grades. Just some advice to you, the ADD meds, combined with a high...- usahockey

Physics Major: Salaries & Future Outlook
Your average tenured university professor of physics probably makes close to $100k/year... College is the one chance you get to study something that interests you before you go off on your career...spend that time wisely and study what interests you. I think it is a mistake that a physics...- usahockey

Questioning the Value of Monthly Attendance Awards
Schools receive more funding based on their rates of attendance. Somebody on the school board probably worked out that they could distribute various prizes, one being said bumper sticker, to students for attendance, at some low cost that would generate more revenue. I remember at my high...- usahockey

Schools Joining the air force reserves vs. borrowing money for college loans
You could try ROTC or NROTC, which would pay for you to complete a degree, if you qualify (I think most people are generally accepted). Joining one of these, I believe, can even help you get into a better school. One guy I knew going to community college was told that he would essentially be...- usahockey

Schools Graduate School Woes: Advices for Computer Engineering Senior
I don't think it will matter really. Do what you like. Most programs will allow for you to make up for some courses that you may need during graduate work. As long as you have a good background in math/science/engineering, they will know that you can be successful. Take my uncle for...- usahockey
