Didn't receive Confirmation E-mail
...I've been trying to get an old account running for a while but am not receiving activation emails. As far as can tell the email traffic (PM notifications, thread subscriptions) stopped about 1.5-2 months ago. No "." :s, caps or anything like in the email address.- Vanechka

Solve Flow Over Topography with FEMLAB-COMSOL Multiphysics and PDE Weak Forms
Hi Catherine, haven't used the lubrication equations that much myself but perhaps can come up with something. What do you mean by getting the wrong results, what actually is wrong?- Vanechka

Best Introduction/Fundamentals of Finite Element Methods Texts
Don't know about the benefits but he seems to take elements from tensor analysis and FE as presented by "mathematically-oriented-FE-people" quite extensively (I personally appreciate the notation of his long-time co-worker Ted Belytschko probably most). Reminds of Zienkiewicz in terms of general...- Vanechka

Best Introduction/Fundamentals of Finite Element Methods Texts
I've always enjoyed stuff by Hughes the book included ... it's "intense" and complete. He flips every stone and the notation & math in particular are way above average I'd say. Perhaps the book is slightly light in terms of treatment of nonlinear aspects, but excellent in any case. Best book to...- Vanechka

What material has the following composite?
Sounds like a pretty common ferritic steel to me. The Cr & Si contents make it sound like one for "mild" high temperature use (some of the "common" grades).- Vanechka

Best Laptop for Engineering: Compatibility Concerns for Mac OS Users
Yeah, I run UGS and solidworks on my work laptop, and the resulting requirements pretty much spell -- "get the latest with as much as everything can get" and 1st check the graphics card (which means wouldn't buy such a system for myself). And then manage somehow without having to constantly run...- Vanechka

Need Help with COMSOL - Seeking Guidance
As far as I can tell the way you've done it should work, however, there can be 'something' in how the steps couple and how one feeds others. How have you actually implemented the condition for starting the adsorption process (as a function of temperature & time ... or well, probably temperature)...- Vanechka

What is the safest file sharing program for downloading?
Didn't \mu- and bittorrent join forces somehow a while ago (although naturally at least were completely different "animals")? I think performance and lightness -wise utorrent for one rocks. Would just make sure download from an authenticated source.- Vanechka

Need Help with COMSOL - Seeking Guidance
...hi there, I think there are couple of us here who've been stuck with Comsol more than a few times ... usually with more or less happy endings, so just "bring it on" :-p .- Vanechka

What Are Good Philosophy Books for Beginners?
If you already haven't, one site I'd recommend you might want to take a look at is: http://www.galilean-library.org/library.html and especially the manuscript section where the link points to - the introduction to philophy is an "internet classic" (==excellent piece of work) doing a...- Vanechka

Edge, Screw, and mixed dislocations
It seems like the successes of discrete & continuum dislocation dynamics are resulting in a new rise in everything 'dislocations' related. Or whether it was ever really "down" ... . Year ago picked up a very good example of this: Computer Simulation of Dislocations, by Bulatov & Cai, which have...- Vanechka

Install 2 Operating Systems in 1 System
Yeah, what OSs do you have in mind? If you're going to put linux & windows in the same box (which is probably the most common situation) it's probably easiest to 1st put the windows in and then 2nd follow by installing whatever linux variant(s) desire (and setting up the dual boot environment...- Vanechka

Modeling Fracture: Intuition, Formula for Elastic Potential & Nodal Forces
alienspy77, I'm late but the topic is so interesting it merits a reply even if you don't need it anymore  . I've seen some real time simulations of "normal" materials ("stiff" by the terminology used by Muller et al, materials where the constitutive relationship is complex enough to...- Vanechka
