High School North pole and south pole of a magnet.

Have a look at the summary and link in my second post from Sept 09, 2009. The north and south poles of a magnet are basically just the ends of the magnet which happen to align with the external magnetic field.

    Graduate Cryogen-cooled x-ray tube anode

Couple of problems. 1) Boiling off the coolant. One approach has been using liquid metal for cooling. It is used, but not to the temperatures you are talking about 2) More of a problem is that if you cool it that much you actually stress the metal more with huge thermal gradients --> lots of...

180-LIBERAL ARTS TO ENGINEERING/MATH/PHYSICS? Any suggestions

y0tsubato - take a look at my post above, if the schools you are considering are as I describe, you may want to think hard about NOT finishing the web design and just switching. Just a consideration.

180-LIBERAL ARTS TO ENGINEERING/MATH/PHYSICS? Any suggestions

Jordan, I'm not totally sure about this, but I believe that many schools will NOT count credits toward a second degree if the credits were used for the first degree. ie, if you used your credit hours for 'econ 101' for your first BS, then you cannot count those hours for a second BS (whether...

Finding final speed with two unknowns (Vf1 & Vf2)

I must be missing something. Shouldn't you take into account the masses into that equation? I think that it would be correct if m1=m2, but they are not.

High School Great Circle Path: How Crows & Radio Waves Move

The only way to get a radio wave to follow a great circle is to use a highly directional antenna. The as mgb said, you'd have to use a frequency that would get you the correct atmospheric bounce (usually lower than VHF).

Engineering Physics: Is it a Good Career Choice?

You know, I honestly don't know how the supply of jobs are. With the economy right now, it's probably hit or miss. Depends on when you graduate. I was lucky in finding my job, from the time I started looking it took about 2 months maybe. Don't really remember, that was back in 1997. If...

Engineering Physics: Is it a Good Career Choice?

This is definitely doable and basically what I did. When I went to undergrad, I knew I wanted to do physics, but not really sure what to pursue after BS. Industry, academia, teaching... I actually took a couple of years off after my BS (got a completely different MS - non...

Oral Communication Tips: Expressing Yourself with Confidence

I used to be really shy. I think most of it has to do with self confidence. I think it also has to do with practice and understanding the topic you are presenting. When I was an undergrad, they required almost everyone to take a speech class (not sure how I got out of it...). But I think...

I want to work outside in the wilderness not in a classroom or lab.

A couple more ideas where you might find some field work: EPA, NRC, health physics, maybe DOE. Good luck

Physics Some doubts about medical physics

So just a bit more clarification, you would probably call what I do 'engineering physics', not sure. I'm not on the CT system side, so I work with people who do the reconstruction sometimes, but not my job. I'm actually on the tube side (cathodes primarily), so we deal with a system of...

    Simple Electronic Millamp question

19rookie83, Another source for information would be to go to Candlepowerforums. They have lots of guys there who tinker with LED's and circuits. They should have some ideas for simple regulation circuits that can be easily obtained and put together...

Programs Online Masters Degree Engineering Physics or Applied Physics

I've been looking myself. The best I can find is a Master's of Engineering online through University of Illinois Chicago (might apply to that one), but its more for the electromagnetics side rather than the mechanics side. But I haven't found one for pure physics.
