I-V Characteristics of Photovoltaic cells
Thanks Redbelly, most useful response I've had on this site. Excuse me if I am being dumb, but say I have a 60W PV module with Vmax point of 9v and I have it connected to charge a 12v battery? Is this possible? If it is than surely the 12v voltage from the battery will be going into the...- vw_g60t

I-V Characteristics of Photovoltaic cells
Hi, could someone care to explain two things: 1) Whats happens when the resistance load of a circuit powered by a PV cell generates a higher voltage then that produced by the PV cell (does band gap get affected). 2) Why does current drop near the Open Circuit Voltage? Surely the generation...- vw_g60t

Why do semiconductors with wider band-gaps have higher output voltage?
Voltage Through a PN junction with a 1.1 ev bandgap Hi, I have been looking at various sources including searching the internet, bu the main textbooks i have are: 1) Markvart, T. 'Solar Electricity' 2000. Southampton 2) Goswami, Kreith, Kreider. ' Principles of Solar Energy'. 2001...- vw_g60t

Why do semiconductors with wider band-gaps have higher output voltage?
In semiconductors it is known that the wider the band-gap the higher the output voltage, what is the theory behind this?- vw_g60t

Effect of temperature on voltage
Hi, I know that voltage decreases with temperature but why? I am looking into silicon solar cells but cannot find any sources which explain why open circuit voltage decreases with rise in temperature. can some explain please! thanks- vw_g60t
