How about this... The speed of light is squared in E=MC^2 because we are dealing with a three dimensional area, much the same way as when we calculate the divergence of EM radiation we used the surface area of a sphere to solve the inverse square law. I think recher is the only one who even came close to answering neoweb’s question. I think the questions: “Why the speed of light and why the heck does it needs to be squared?” are answered like this: E=mC^2, or m=E/C^2, C^2=E/m, or however you want to write it...what it’s saying is that...- WonderWatcher
