Math Top Paying Jobs for Math Majors: Finding Success Beyond the Numbers
Wow, that's a pretty sizable chunk of cash to make. Aside from figuring out what she does, I've heard that being a CPA pays quite a bit, and I don't know if this is the general case but I've heard of actuaries making quite a bit of money. You might have seen this or something like it before...- WormBanshee

Complex Analysis or Complex Variables?
For this situation, I'd say the difference between these two classes is different than the difference between regular and honors multivar calc. Here, there won't necessarily be more topics or applications or whatnot in the complex analysis class (actually, for computation/applications, there...- WormBanshee

Abstract Algebra vs Linear Algebra
Well, at my school Linear is actually a prerequisite for Abstract, just because of the so-called "mathematical maturity" that you need to study it. But, the fact that your school will allow you to actually take that course before Linear probably means that it wouldn't be a problem for you. You...- WormBanshee

Programs Chances of getting into PhD program (low gpa related)
Well, I have yet to graduate (I'll be a junior this next year), but since nobody else has said anything yet I'll say what I've read in other threads on here no this subject before (I have no idea what time zone the PF times are on, but it's 6:30pm where I am, and the forum says the last comment...- WormBanshee

Math Publishing a solution to a Mathematics Problem
Well, it's not just a proof he's talking about, it's a completely new solution to a problem that currently has no solution that the poster is talking about, so I can see how it violates the rules. It isn't the fact that it's a proof that makes it against the rules, it's the use of this forum to...- WormBanshee

Schools Graduate school for math, Industry job outlook?
Thanks so much for the reply :) I never really thought about statistics being used for that kind of stuff. I guess I'll be taking that class for a spin the next time I get the chance :) thanks!- WormBanshee

Schools Do most schools require a science other than Physics for Physics majors?
My University requires the General Chemistry sequence for a Physics major, which is two semesters. And yeah, chemistry is a lot of applied physics, and there is a ton of useful information in chemistry classes that physicists should know, but doesn't really have a place in a physics class.I...- WormBanshee

Transferring junior needs some guidance from PF.
As for the math classes, that really depends on your "mathematical maturity," so to speak, and how interested you are in learning the material, or willingness/ability to put the effort in if necessary. I wouldn't worry about your maturity, since you seem to have taken enough math already...- WormBanshee

Transferring junior needs some guidance from PF.
Is your problem that you don't know if you should take them without the physics 3 class, or that you can't and aren't sure what to do instead? Well, the other Junior class is E&M, which you've already had the intro to, so if you were to take that without the physics 3 pre-req, I don't think...- WormBanshee

Graduate What Are Your Views on Non-Standard Analysis?
According to Wikipedia, the issue isn't with the content being logically sound or rigorous enough. The big issue is whether or not it's even needed, or whether it brings anything new to the table, something that can't already be obtained through other, existing methods. Here's the article...- WormBanshee

Graduate Applications of Functional Analysis ?
I've been reading about it lately too, and I believe that it has a number of applications in Quantum Mechanics. The last chapter of the book I'm reading on it is all about its applications in QM. Specifically the topic of Unbounded Operators is important (I haven't personally made it that far...- WormBanshee
