    Quick quantitative analysis problem

Homework Statement A 1.00 × 10^-4 M NaF solution can be prepared in several ways. Two methods are listed below. The formula weight of NaF is 41.9984 ± 0.0003. For each method use propagation of error methods to determine the absolute and relative uncertainty in the final concentration...

Why does someone with normal vision not need glasses?

So I was able to figure out the answers to questions 2 and 3. For 1, however, I'm still not sure about it...but here's my guess: Because a normal eye is neither elongated nor smaller, this means that neither a converging or diverging lens is needed in order to focus nearby objects on the...

Why does someone with normal vision not need glasses?

Homework Statement These are more-so explanation based and there is no math involved. 1) How come someone with "normal vision" does not require glasses? 2) Why does a far sighted person require glasses with a positive focal length? 3) Why does a near sighted person require glasses with a...

Simple Harmonic motion and Doppler effect question

Say at point 5 is where you hear the frequency of 60Hz...but what about point 1? That's what I meant. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

Simple Harmonic motion and Doppler effect question

Nope! I didn't forget to mention this (that the observed frequency would be 60Hz at the highest point). However I'm not entirely sure how to go about calculating the observed frequency at the completely opposite side of the highest point without a length.

Simple Harmonic motion and Doppler effect question

I only said you could calculate the doppler shift at this point because that's the only point where we are given velocity. At all the other points, I sort of have to guess what the frequency would be. I said that at the highest point that's closest to the source (the whistler) would be 60 Hz and...

Simple Harmonic motion and Doppler effect question

Homework Statement So you're being pushed on a swing by someone who is whistling at a constant 60Hz. At the bottom, Vmax is 4 m/s. Explain what you hear as you swing toward and away from the source of whistling (speed of sound is 343 m/s for this problem). Homework Equations Observed...

Static/Kinetic friction problem help (several problems - Diagrams included)

I attempted the assignment for real. I failed it. No need to respond to this thread anymore. Thank you, Physics forums! T_T

Static/Kinetic friction problem help (several problems - Diagrams included)

I've been approaching this from every possible angle. If I submit wrong answers, I lose points. Even when I submit an apparently "correct" answer, I'm still being marked wrong. I really desperately need help. T_T

Static/Kinetic friction problem help (several problems - Diagrams included)

PROBLEM 1 Homework Statement A block of mass m = 12.5 kg rests on an inclined plane with a coefficient of static friction of μs = 0.08 between the block and the plane. The inclined plane is L = 4.5 m long and it has a height of h = 3.25 m at its tallest point. m = 12.5 kg μs = 0.08 L = 4.5 m...

Questions pertaining to constant velocity + acceleration and relative motion

    1) In the following four scenarios, determine the sign of the ball’s velocity and acceleration. Up is positive. The ball is thrown straight up. (Velocity is positive, Acceleration is negative) Up is positive. The ball is dropped straight down. (Velocity is negative, Acceleration is negative)...

Physics What Does a Medical Physicist Do in Cancer Treatment?

Oh, wow. Guess I can't do Medical Physics then. What I don't understand though is how would I not be able to pass the boards if my undergraduate major wasn't in Physics? Wouldn't it be the job of the medical physics program you're into teach you the material necessary to pass them?

Physics What Does a Medical Physicist Do in Cancer Treatment?

Thank you all for your wonderful answers. For someone currently pursuing a Biochemistry B.S., is Medical Physics as a potential career option out of the table since my major is not Physics? It's not that I wouldn't switch to Physics if I could, but my current school does not even offer a...

Physics What Does a Medical Physicist Do in Cancer Treatment?

Medical Physics - A general "job description" as opposed to a radiation oncologist Forgive my ignorance, but Medical Physics/Radiation Oncology is one of those fields who's typical work day is still a mystery to me. Are medical physicists the "primary guy" when it comes to treating patients...

A 500 pound fly (this is not a HW question)

So this is a theoretical question that is a real doozey for me, but maybe some of you could shed some light on it. This isn't a homework question or anything like that. The question: So let's say that you have a 500 pound fly (yes, I mean the insect...I know you can't have 500 pound flies in...
