Source of Virtual Particles in Space?

is this not an expected outcome from the probabilistic nature of quantum mechanics? if any particle's wave-function gives it the chance to exist anywhere in the universe, multiplied by the number of particles in the universe, surely it fits that some portion of the particles in the universe...

What's the point of Escape Velocity?

right, this is where the confusion comes from i think. people always use the term "escape velocity" when talking about rockets, but rockets accelerate most of the way up. I'm not denying there is such a thing as "escape velocity" or challenging its definition, I'm just saying when talking about...

What's the point of Escape Velocity?

it seems to me that "escape acceleration" would be a better term. as long as i can travel upwards continually at any velocity, large or small, i will eventually leave earth. it's the acceleration due to gravity that you need to overcome, really. and the only way to do that is with a...

Gravity question: force vs spacetime curvature

those diagrams are making some sense. so the "motion" that actually causes two static objects to attract (roll down the hill) is actually their motion through time.. so even if they're not moving spatially, they're still moving temporally which moves them around the cone. do i have this correct?

Gravity question: force vs spacetime curvature

ok, but what mechanism causes them to "roll down the hill"? something must be causing a force on the spheres to accelerate them... ?

Is the UK's electrical system safer due to its grounding configuration?

neutral != ground. neutral returns to the transformer, whereas ground returns to the ground . since the transformer is also grounded, eventually both paths complete the circuit, but going through ground is not the ideal return path... grounding your home electricity is more for safety than...

Why does air rush in from colder to hotter space and not vice versa?

i think the only reason the cold air comes in when you open a window is because of the pressure from the wind. if there was absolutely no wind then gravity would take over and the warm air in the room would escape at the top of the window (due to convection) and the cold outside air would be...

Gravity question: force vs spacetime curvature

So Newton says that gravity is an attractive force and some people believe in gravitons to transmit that attractive force, but Einstein says the attraction is actually due to moving along the curvature of spacetime (caused by the bodies' mass). I'm not asking which is correct, but my question is...
