Building an Efficient Self-Charging Electric Vehicle: Tips and Tricks

I'm a newbie here and I'm trying to build my own electric motor powered vehicle that doesn't have to be charged a system that charges itself or regenerates power by itself, I have a lot of questions about the application and efficiency and how to provide more torque and speed and a whole lot more!
I don't know where to start, hope you guys can help :)
