I think it's an accident waiting to happen. The front door is downstairs and opens to a stairway, you have to go upstairs to enter the apartment, the garage is downstairs. I'm wondering about nights when the Fruit Bat wakes up and wants to go out to use the bathroom. The best part of the story is the fact that I live on the last floor of my building, so the sun is definitely keeping my appartment boiling. Even better, my bed is directly under a small attic-ish part of the ceiling, so there's not really much air there. Although I have two big windows in my room, the air circulation is amazingl awful.

Moonbear said:If the landlord is that much of a jerk that he won't even provide an air-conditioner, I think it's time to find a stealthy way to keep one installed. Is there a way to leave the unit on the floor and just modify some ductwork to attach to a dryer vent hose (the accordian-like round stuff that would be smaller and less obvious than an air-conditioner sticking out the window)? Might not be quite as good as properly installing it in the window, but maybe better than nothing at all? Or maybe we need someone really good at art to modify all the words on the unit so you can point at it and say, "Oh, it's just a dehumidifier!"
