Original new york times article announcing Einstein's successful test of GR

In summary, Einstein's successful test of GR revolutionized our understanding of the universe and provided a new understanding of the laws of gravity and space-time. He conducted the test by observing the bending of starlight near the sun during a solar eclipse, which was confirmed by observations. The original New York Times article announcing the test was published on November 10, 1919. Initially met with skepticism, the scientific community eventually accepted and recognized Einstein's work. Further experiments and observations have confirmed his theory of GR and it has become an essential component of modern physics.

I decided to track down and read the original article in NYT reporting on Einstein's successful prediction that light would bend around the sun. It was not on the front page but maybe around page 11 or so. You can read it here

"about fifty years of age" ...he still had to become famous, obviously.
But the "cynics" were already there.

1. What is the significance of Einstein's successful test of GR?

Einstein's successful test of GR, or General Relativity, was a groundbreaking achievement in the field of physics. It provided a new understanding of the laws of gravity and space-time, and revolutionized our understanding of the universe.

2. How did Einstein conduct the test of GR?

Einstein conducted the test of GR by observing the bending of starlight near the sun during a solar eclipse. He predicted that the sun's massive gravitational pull would cause a slight shift in the position of stars, which was confirmed by observations made during the eclipse.

3. When was the original New York Times article announcing Einstein's successful test of GR published?

The original New York Times article announcing Einstein's successful test of GR was published on November 10, 1919.

4. How did the scientific community react to Einstein's successful test of GR?

The scientific community was initially skeptical of Einstein's theory, but the successful test during the solar eclipse provided strong evidence in its favor. This led to widespread acceptance and recognition of Einstein's work.

5. Has Einstein's theory of GR been further tested and confirmed?

Yes, Einstein's theory of GR has been extensively tested and confirmed through numerous experiments and observations. It has become an essential component of modern physics and has been used to make accurate predictions about the behavior of our universe.
