SUMMARY

This discussion centers on the implications of time travel, specifically the scenario of traveling back 10 seconds. It highlights the conflict between Earth's movement through space and the concept of time travel, questioning whether one would occupy the same spatial coordinates or end up in outer space. The conversation also explores the potential existence of multiple dimensions of time and the necessity for time-traveling devices to account for spatial locations to be functional.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Einstein's theory of relativity
  • Familiarity with the concept of spacetime
  • Basic knowledge of dimensional theory
  • Awareness of time travel theories in physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research Einstein's theory of relativity and its implications on time travel
  • Explore the concept of spacetime and its relevance to time travel scenarios
  • Investigate theories regarding higher dimensions of time
  • Examine existing time travel theories and their feasibility in modern physics
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, science fiction writers, and anyone interested in the theoretical implications of time travel and its relationship with space and dimensions.

Suppose I traveled back in time 10 seconds. As the Earth is revolving around the sun at a great speed, I would end up in outer space as the Earth 10 seconds ago hasn't yet reached my actual position.

Or, as time and space are connected, would I still end up where I am sitting now, but 10 seconds in the past, and perhaps on the lap of my past self? And more, if space has many dimensions, is it possible that time also has more than one dimension? Could we somehow be affected by higher time dimensions?

There are no universal (time-independent) positions in space, but any time-travelling device would have to take locations into account to be useful.
