Hi all. On the drive home the other night I saw ? seen? one of the coolest sunsets I have ever seen. Let me describe it for you.
There was a low layer of clouds with a clearing (clear sky) above and then another layer of clouds several thousand feet above. The sun set below (behind) the lower layer and reflected up in a beam to light up the clouds at the higher layer. The effect was fantastic. The beam looked like a shaft or sword of light.
Although I was driving at the time I grabbed my camera and took several shots over a few minutes. Thru the windshield and in traffic.
The sight to the eye was amazing, to the camera, not so much. I will put a link to the photos here and ask if anyone here with skills with photoshop can clean one or all of them up and capture some of the magic. You can claim and receive credit for any work done to the photos. Any one up to the challenge? I thank you for any help. Just click the medium photo in photobucket to get the full size one and dl it or them from there.

I tried, but couldn't get much out of it. I think the problem is that it is overexposed - common when taking photos of a dusk sky.

I'm actually more concerned about the flying saucer that dropped three bombs right in front of you before banking off to the left! Are you ok?!?

I'll see what I can salvage from the photo. It's not high quality..and like Russ said, it's overexposed.

What do you want it to look like? (final product)

Blech. I'm partially colorblind and whenever I try to work on something other than a black and white image it turns to mush:

I tried. Created a bit of noise, but it was the best I could do.

great photo by the way.

Around here the sky would be more pink/purple that time of the evening.

Okay, here's one thing I can help with - the correct one in this case is "saw".

Hey thanks. great results. The closest to real from the drivers seat is Hypatias. It was very bright in that local area. Thanks Hypatia. For reality you nailed it. Larkspur, Borek and Christina, you really brought it into the realm of a viewable photo. Your results are great. Captain Quasar, yours fits well with the bombing flying saucer theme put forth by Russ. A little unreal and slightly surreal and scary lol. The flying saucer is actualy my traffic escort and the bombs take out any annoying traffic in my vicinity Ahhh rank does have its privileges.
Anyhow, how can I get copies from youall?? I am really pleased with all your efforts. Thanks.

Here is a direct link to the large file.
