Do you follow the old tradition of calling 3-7 days later to check on the status of your application? Assume it's a larger corporation with an applicant tracking system.

I would think that should be fine. I don't know of any penalty points for being reasonably assertive in your quest of a technical job, as long as you have the qualifications...

If you have a phone number that works sure. Although you shouldn't be surprised if you can't reach the people that matter. You also shouldn't be surprised if the application went from straight from the website into a black hole, without anyone seeing it.
