University-Level Physics Video Lectures: Pre-Med Students Suggestions

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around recommendations for university-level video lectures in physics, specifically targeting pre-med students interested in Classical Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism. Participants explore various sources and suggest alternatives to well-known educators.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests Stanford video lectures, specifically mentioning Leonard Susskind's lectures available on YouTube, covering various topics including classical mechanics and quantum mechanics.
  • Another participant asserts that after watching the recommended lectures by Walter Lewin, Ramamurti Shankar, and Khan Academy, students should focus on problem-solving from textbooks rather than seeking more lectures.
  • A follow-up inquiry seeks clarification on how to find specific lectures by Leonard Susskind, indicating some confusion regarding the reference to "lecture number 'n'."

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the value of additional lectures after the initial recommendations, with some advocating for further exploration of video content and others suggesting a shift to practical problem-solving.

Contextual Notes

There are references to specific educators and platforms, but no consensus on the effectiveness of additional lectures versus textbook problem-solving is reached.

Who May Find This Useful

Pre-med students looking for supplementary physics resources, educators seeking to recommend video lectures, and individuals interested in exploring different teaching styles in physics.

If some pre-med students want to study Physics by watching university-level video lectures on Physics-1 (Classical Mechanics) and Physics-2 (Electricity & Magnetism), what site would you suggest to them? (They already know of Walter Lewin, Ramamurti Shankar and Khan Academy). Can you suggest any other good universities with video lectures for physics?

You can try with Stanford video lectures. You can find these lectures on youtube, write Leonard Susskind (the professor) lecture number "n" . You'll find lectures on classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, cosmology and so on...

At that level you won't be able to find anything better. If you already watched those lectures you should just do problems from a textbook.Watching any more lectures won't help you much.

Thanks. I see many lectures by Leonard Susskind. What do you mean by lecture number "n" - can't find those - do you have a link?
