What are the physics principles behind playground equipment design?

Hello, i am a product developer working for a company that develops and manufacturs components for playground equipment. I have a basic knowledge of physics but for some projects my knowledge is insufficient, and since Google is not helping me, i tried joining this forum in search for some answers.
