What historical artifacts can be seen at Pearl Harbour in August 2018?

[davenn]

Hi gang

Yesterday My wife and I had a wonderful tour around Pearl Harbour
Here are just a tiny few of the 100's of images...……The USS Bowfin

Steam powered torpedo

2 different versions of Polaris Missile

Info for the black and white topped one from above

The mighty Mo ( USS Missouri)

A few more

The USS Arizona Memorial
Currently closed because of damage to the docking facilities
But they take you on a boat ride to see the memorial and the USS Missouri

Up near the bow looking aft
Bow end, 6 x 16 inch guns that can fire their projectiles over 35km ( over 20 miles)

For those that don't know, The surrender of the Japanese took place on the Missouri whilst it was in Tokyo Bay.
Below is a photo that is on a wall by the place where the "Instrument of Surrender" was signed.
With this, the war in the Pacific ended

Hi up on the outside "bridge" looking forward …. The Arizona Memorial ahead
Pearl City in the background

As I said, just a tiny few of the many photos from the day. A large part of the Missouri is open to explore ( above and below deck)
If you ever get the chance to go to Hawai'i, a Pear Harbour tour is a must !

Regards
Dave

The mighty Mo ( USS Missouri)

Not to be confused with the Mighty Moo (USS Cowpens).

I've been there on my free time during conference but I never got to see the Mighty Mo. Very nice pictures!

A wooden deck - how thick is that?
I presume it is oak?

[BillTre]

I think teak is typical for decks on ships like that.

I toured her in Philly maybe 25 years ago when they were preparing to turn her into a museum. The tour guide pointed to a small dent in one of the turrets, about what you might expect to find in your car door after parking at the mall near Christmas, and said it was from a direct hit from a Japanese 8" shell. Now that's armor.
