What impact can overlooking location have on university applicants?

I think this is something that university applicants DO NOT LOOK INTO ENOUGH. I was an idealistic high school student at one time, chasing after the "best program". Look at me now! I'm stuck going to school in suburban hell!

In all seriousness, i wish i would've done a campus visit or something. Academics isn't everything. Guess I'm almost there though...two.5 more years...
