That's a very tall order, but I could kick things off with one of the largest and most universal effects; the Earth's magnetic field deflects solar raditaion away from the surface (except near the poles). Without this shield to protect us, most life in the forms with which we are familliar could not survive the bombardment of radiation and charged particles form the Sun, and humanity along with most life on the planet would be sterilized.

It's like I always say; "Those charged particles are something you have to keep an ion". [g)]
