I am trying to understand excitement energy. Frank-Hertz experiment says mercury need 4,86eV for 1st excitement energy but i wonder between which orbitals, layers(K,L,M,...) etc.

In the mercury spectrum, this energy corresponds to the 2.537 Ang line. So, by looking at the spectrum in the Frank Hertz Nobel Lecture (Fig3,p23) (http://users.skynet.be/P.Nicoletopoulos/fhnobel.pdf) you will find the energy levels : S^{1}_{0} to P^{3}_{1}. To understand this, you need to apply the selection rules onto the atomic structure of mercury.
