SUMMARY

The discussion confirms that the ratio of height to radius (h/R) required for all diagonal elements of the inertia tensor to be equal is h/R = √3. The user correctly set Ixx equal to Iyy and subsequently to Izz, utilizing algebraic manipulation to arrive at this conclusion. The solution is validated by another participant, affirming the accuracy of the calculation.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of inertia tensor concepts in physics
  • Familiarity with algebraic manipulation techniques
  • Knowledge of tensor properties and diagonalization
  • Basic principles of rotational dynamics
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the derivation of inertia tensors for various geometric shapes
  • Learn about the physical significance of diagonal elements in inertia tensors
  • Study applications of inertia tensors in rotational dynamics
  • Investigate the implications of different height-to-radius ratios on stability
USEFUL FOR

Students in physics, mechanical engineers, and anyone studying rotational dynamics or tensor analysis will benefit from this discussion.

Since my Ixx=Iyy i made one of them = to Izz, i did some simple algebra and got h/R = sqrt(3) is this right? If not where did I go wrong?

Thanks
