I need an explanation of the earth grounding in electric courses

I can't appreciate the role of an earth grounding

does the earth surface really act as a common node for all earth grounded systems?

Can we then send a signal using one wire only??

Yes - Remember that although the conductivity of earth isn't all that good, the cross sectional area is quite large.


Can we then send a signal using one wire only??
Yes although there are practical difficulties that mean it isn't that efficent.
