Okay, I used to paint a lot, but I haven't done any painting lately. I decided to sell my paint supplies and brushes and easel. I was gathering everything together and decided I'll just paint one last one before I give it up. The only problem was I didn't have any canvas. So I'm looking around and I notice that my front door has magic marker on it from the previous tenants. I figure they are going to have to repaint the door when I move out anyway. I also should mention that I was thinking about Bora Bora. Now when my front door is closed, it looks like it is open but instead of the brick wall I usually see, it opens to a boardwalk and the ocean. Covers the ENTIRE door. Probably should have thought this one through a bit more.

I'm trying to find a camera I'm waiting for my neighbor to get home so I can borrow his.

Just leave the door open while the landlord does the final inspection. As long as the door is still on the hinges, they never think to look behind one. :uhh: It IS still on the hinges, right?

Um...I just remembered, you're the one who had that cute children's story and was pleading for an illustrator because you couldn't draw. So, just how bad is this painting going to be? :uhh:

It's horrible. Perspective is pretty much correct though.

Okay, I'm still waiting for the neighbor, but I got out my old p.o.s. camera. The picture is horrible, but you get the basic idea.

Wow, that's so cool. But it's not enough. You have to continue the mural onto the bricks...

they can only take my security deposit once right?

It's awesome, tribdog.
Mind, it would look even cooler if you took off the doorknob...
Well, maybe you could just paint it so it looks like it belongs? What sticks out of the sand like that?

tribdog
Sep10-08, 09:10 PM
It's oil paint too, so they won't be able to just paint over it.

DON'T encourage him! This is someone with a penchant for destroying property the way Evo destroys herself!

Though, that mural on the door is pretty cool! Much better than I was expecting, actually. The doorknob spoils it though.

Who paints a door knob and key hole into a picture of the ocean? This junk stinks.

You could make the doorknob into a...shell? Oh - a conch. Or a crab. A snorkel! Or a dead sea gull...hmmm, you could do a lot with it....

Hey don't forget. I can dish it out but I can't take it. You are going to give me a serious complex. I'm going to have to cut myself again to let the negative feelings out.

Cyrus
Sep10-08, 11:39 PM
When you cut your wrist. Do a Pollock. That would be a good piece of art.

In all seriousness. It's a nice painting. But I have to say, its just really really tacky. :yuck:

It reminded me of that old gallager routine where he had the double door so when you go through and open one, it shuts the other so your wife does not yell at you for leaving the door open.

Also, I don't think bob Ross is a good artist. He makes crap for hotel lobbies.

tacky? TACKY? HELL Yeah it's tacky.. You know how long it's going to take before I am so damn sick and tired of seeing it? About 15 minutes from now.

Cyrus
Sep10-08, 11:42 PM
Can I ask why you decided to do that on your door?

I happen to think it's fantastic. I especially like the detail of the open door painted on the door. They should double your damage deposit when they return it to you so you don't remove the door and take it with you when you go.

If you like art you should watch the movie 'pollock' starring ed harris. Interesting insight into his life.

Why did you make it then? Reading your OP, you clearly wanted to express yourself by making this. I'd say it clearly has meaning to the artist. You didnt just make it because you were bored.

Funny how you state 'they'll have to repaint it once I leave' and your door is 'open' to a new better beginning, subconsciously your picture represents a happier place than your current location, and the new door leads to it.

:uhh: No, of course not. He made it because he was bored AND had painting supplies out to sell. This is tribdog, the same one who tried to defrost soda with a MAPP torch and burned the carpet in the process.

Though, tribdog, now you're going to need to buy more paints. I think you definitely need more white back on the water. The first version was better.

Yes, click "Undo" and go back to the first version!

Although, you know it could just be because you're looking out the door at a different angle. Or the tides have changed causing the waves to come in differently.
