can anyone tell me what is the formula and structure of the carbonate? i am very confused about this.is it bond by covalent bond ?

Carbonate is a polyatomic ion. The formula is CO3 with a charge of negative 2. You most often find it as KCO3 or Na2CO3. The structure is trigonal planar, with four bonds to carbon, two of which are doubly bonded to one oxygen atom, and the other two bonded to one oxygen atom each. Usually the structure is drawn with the two negative charges on oxygen.
