2.0 E -4/2.56 E -2 = 0.10squared/0.40squared * 0.10to the Ypower/0.20 to the Ypower

solve for Y

Is this what you mean ?

\frac {0.0002} {0.0256} = \frac {(0.1)^2} {(0.4)^2} \frac {(0.1)^Y} {(0.2)^Y}

If so, then Y=3.

2.0E-4/2.56E-2 = (0.1^2/0.4^2) * (0.1^x/0.2^x)

x = 3

Looks like you just made a small mistake somwhere.

It all simplifies to 1/128=[2^(-y)]/16, and then 1/8=2^(-y), and further 8=2^y.

Thus I agree with Nico, y=3.
