Hi,

I am building a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and I have all the components except for the detector induction coils and sample holder. Any ideas where I could get the coils (for cheap)and what to make the sample holder out of?

The induction coils have to have an axial length and outer radius of 1-2cm.

The sample holder has to be rigid 1 1/2ft long with perhaps with a radius of about 0.5cm-1cm. Non magnetic

If any of you have ever built one any advice is appreciated.

thanks

How much inductance, operating frequency of the coils, etc..

Electronic stores and surplus places might have what you want. Even some old piece of equipment.

Polystyrene has excellent electical properties, so a piece of poly tubing might make a good holder.

You could wind your own coils for cheap. with phosphorus bronze wire and GE varnish. And G10 tubing would be good for the sample holder and the coils.
