SUMMARY

The forum discussion centers around a contest initiated by a user named eNtRopY, who seeks suggestions for nano-sized objects to photograph using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). eNtRopY aims to create a striking SEM image for their personal website, expressing frustration that popular subjects like ant faces and embryos have already been captured. A notable suggestion includes the HIV virus, which was previously photographed using advanced x-ray diffraction methods. The discussion highlights the creativity involved in selecting unique nano-sized subjects for imaging.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) techniques
  • Familiarity with nano-sized biological structures
  • Knowledge of x-ray diffraction methods
  • Basic principles of microscopy and imaging resolution
NEXT STEPS
  • Research advanced SEM imaging techniques and their applications
  • Explore the biological significance of the HIV virus and its structure
  • Study x-ray diffraction methods used in crystallography
  • Investigate unique nano-sized objects suitable for imaging
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for microscopists, biologists, and anyone interested in advanced imaging techniques and the visualization of nano-sized biological entities.

Okay, this is kind of a contest. Name the something nano-sized you would like to see a picture of. I will consider all the submitted ideas, and scan the object, that would make the coolest picture, for all to see.

Why am I doing this? Well, I want to have a cool SEM picture (that I scanned) to put on my personal website, but it seems like all of the good ideas have already been taken by others (ant faces, embryos, etc).

Much obliged amigos.

I saw some neat pictures of the HIV virus that they had made with heroic x-ray diffraction methods (got a cristalized sample of the virus invasding a cell and used techniques unbelieveably beyond what was good work in my old day). They should be somewhere on the web and they are really cool; the virus reminds me of some old bravo flashing a fancy sword in your face with one hand while he stabs you from under his cloak with the other.

What is the minimum resolution?
