if i insert lacZ into a gene and the translation gives a hybrid product with the sequences of both lacZ and this gene. i wonder if lacZ can still work and give blue colonies? and what about the function of this other gene?

wait so much for replies.

thanks so much in advance!

LacZ should still work when fused with a protein. The other protein might be affected by the fussion. It will depend on where lacZ is fused. The N-terminal and/or the C-terminal of some proteins are essantial for their role. There numerous example in the litterature that have shown that lacZ can be fused to genes.
