I was looking for a paper or textbook that would provide "working equations" for Tipler Cylinders. In other words, is there an equation(s) that would provide the light cone tilt angle as a function of the cylinder's diameter, height, density, and angular velocity?
Can't find much online about the Tipler cylinder (also known as a van Stockum cylinder), though this paper (http://rampke.de/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/ba.pdf) gives the basic metric, and here (http://theophysics.chimehost.net/pdf/tipler-rotating-cylinders.pdf) is Tipler's original paper. There's a lot of info on light cone tilting in the interior of a rotating black hole (which also allows closed timelike curves in the inside) in this paper (http://arxiv.org/pdf/0708.2324), if you're interested (and there's a diagram of light cone tilting around a van Stockum cylinder in this paper (http://www.its.caltech.edu/~kip/scripts/ClosedTimelikeCurves-II121.pdf) but that's not quite what you're looking for...that paper directs us to this one (http://iopscience.iop.org/0305-4470/13/6/033) for more mathematical details on the van Stockum solution, but it's not available free online for nonsubscribers...maybe someone with an academic affiliation could access it and see if has something relevant to the OP?)
