Riverside - A two-legged Chihuahua dropped off at a Riverside animal shelter is doing fine despite his disability and has a "lot of love to give" anyone interested in adopting him, a county Animal Services spokesman said today.

The 4-month-old puppy was brought into the Western Riverside County Animal Shelter on Thursday as a stray, according to John Welsh of the Department of Animal Services.

He said the black Chihuahua, which has only his hind legs and stumps for front ones, immediately charmed animal control technicians. They named him "Roo," short for kangaroo.

He was on the news last night. I bet there is a long line of people waiting to interview for adopting him. My cat also vetoed the idea of me bringing him home. He sure is cute, though.

I wonder if a special suit could be made to help him? Something maybe with prosthetic legs in front so his chin doesn't hit the floor when he eats, but also maybe weighted toward his tail to help him balance when he's walking.

How about a set of wheels along the lines of what they put on their back ends?

He could be bit burdensome to have; however, they might be able give him some legs/wheels.

I would love to have that baby, but I'm sure they have a huge list already.

A cat that had its back feet severed by a combine harvester has been given two prosthetic limbs in a pioneering operation by a UK vet.

Finally found it! Amazing video

That's adorable!

There was another two-legged dog named Faith, who learned how to walk bipedally (video in story) and is making the rounds of VA hospitals to cheer up new amputees:

Having the local news put up profiles of recent animal shelter 'acquisitions' probably goes a long way towards getting the pets adopted.

The stories about the bionic cat and Faith the dog are both fantastic!

There's a lot of two-legged dogs on YouTube!

These front-end carriages look kind of clunky on these chihuahuas:

The custom-made dealies on this Maltese look pretty styling (and even have built-in suspension!)

This greyhound (whippet?) may have lost two legs, but doesn't appear to have lost a step:

I saw that same bit about doggie prosthesis... I loved it! It helps dogs, it will help people... what more does anyone want? Anyway, that's an adorable dog MIH... go for it! If you can't get that one (and you're right, 5 minutes after that piece aired there was probably a line), it's not as though plenty of other good pups (and they're all good) don't need a good home.

Dogs are scrappy and adapt well to adversities. I'm sure he'll have a happy life.
