Could a Neutron Star Be at the Centre of the Sun?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the hypothesis of a neutron star being at the center of the Sun, referencing various academic papers and exploring implications related to solar dynamics and the solar neutrino problem.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant references a paper suggesting a neutron star at the Sun's center, prompting inquiry into its implications.
  • Another participant proposes that there are more promising solutions to the solar neutrino problem, indicating skepticism about the neutron star hypothesis.
  • A participant notes the surprising nature of the solar core being described as a supernova remnant, raising unrelated questions about solar dynamics.
  • Comments on the brevity of the referenced paper highlight its unusual length, suggesting a focus on concise presentation.
  • A different paper is mentioned that also discusses the Sun condensing around a neutron star supernova remnant, with a similar thematic focus on condensation.
  • It is noted that O. Manuel is a co-author on multiple papers, suggesting a continuity in the exploration of this hypothesis.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the validity and implications of the neutron star hypothesis, with no consensus reached on its acceptance or rejection.

Contextual Notes

Some discussions touch on the implications of the neutron star hypothesis for solar dynamics and the solar neutrino problem, but these implications remain unresolved and speculative.

I'm not at the center of the sun. I'm right here!

The paper is also interesting in the sense that is the shortest paper of arxiv that I remember (less than a page if you leave aside the references)

http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0411255

this also says the sun condensed around a neutron star supernova remnant
and it is two pages long

apparently the authors like condensation
because it is a condensed article as well

O. Manuel is a co-author in each case
but some of the others are different
