Ok someone tell me if I understand the concept correctly.
Two factors determine the fluidity of the cell membrane
1) The CIS double bonds determine the fluidity of the membrane. The more cis double bonds you have, the more fluid the cell membrane will be.
2) cholesterol plays an important role in fludity. I guess in the presence of cholesterol there will be more fludity as it will prevent the "freezing" effect.
Can someone explain the cholesterol part more clearly? I heard that the cholesterol also reduces membrane fluidity. What situation would that be?
