should we keep sending machines to other planets to discover, or .. should we send men? after all, machines have been failing

So have manned missions. Machines are much cheaper and able to continue to send information long after their biological equivalents would have expired.

quite soon these will be the same thing-

future "manned" misions will be humans in adapted bodies/tools- either heavily modified biological bodies or non-biological machines running a copy of human mind-ware- or at least remotely linked directly to the motor/sensory inputs/outputs of a human brain somewhere on earth-

eventually we should only be sending small packages of nanomachinery and software into space- at some point- nanomachinery and software may be all most of us are here on earth as well!
