Hello, I'm looking for an introductory model theory book that is relatively cheap. Any suggestions?
Currently reading from "A Shorter Model Theory" by Wilfrid Hodges from a school copy, I may buy this one .. unless anybody has any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hi wis!!

Here are some thoughts:

- "Foundations of mathematics" by K. Kunen (a very good set theorist). Freely available at www.math.wisc.edu/~kunen/notes_post.ps (it's .ps file though, so you may have to download some stuff)

- "Model theory" by Chang and Keisler

- "Model theory: an introduction" by Marker

Universal algebra might be good to know. Check out http://www.math.uwaterloo.ca/~snburris/htdocs/ualg.html for that.

The Marker book is very interesting looking, especially if you are interested in seeing applications of model theory ( and logic ) to other fields of mathematics!
The one I like at the moment is:

http://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Model-Theory-Algebra-Applications/dp/9056993135/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318904521&sr=8-1

and it has a pretty cool section about group theory!
