Bike Alarm

Hey everyone...I need work out how big my bike alarm has to be to fit under a bike saddle...so could you please tell me by how far you move your saddle up, so you can ride your bike properly and sit comfortably?....This can be done by measuring the length of the metal rod that holds the saddle up...i urgently need the information...please help...thanx

I have about six inches of seat post showing on mine. But my bike is a road bike. 3/4 of bike thefts are of mountain bikes, and mountain bikes usually have more seat post showing since they use shorter frames than do road bikes.
